Together, this past Saturday, our brothers formed a team for the annual Big Event, and gave back to the Blacksburg community through volunteer work. We divided up into 7 small groups and tackled a list of 8 projects, including raking leaves, washing windows, weeding, and mulching (and Caitie and Veronique somehow managed to do a little yoga as well as cleaning). Overall, our group put in over 25 hours of community service while spending time together as brothers. Also, last week our brothers played in an intramural softball game on the first APX team. The game was called early for thunder, but the team pulled in a win, defeating the opposing team 7-5. Here’s the team photo from the game!

Alpha Rho Chi Foundation
In the memo line, please add “Kim Clark Fund”

Any follow up checks can be sent to the Foundation directly once we have additional fund information.

Please let Michele know if you have any questions. If you will be sending a check, send her an email at alumni@metagenes.org so she will know I look out for it.

Our brother, Kim Steven Clark, has passed away from complications caused by Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. He was 52. After struggling for over two years with the disease, he passed away peacefully this morning at Roanoke Memorial Hospital near his home in southwest Virginia. His beloved wife Bonnie was by his side to the end. In addition to his wife he is survived by a teenage daughter, Sarah. All his brothers in Alpha Rho Chi share in his loss.

For those of you that knew him personally, you know that his love of Alpha Rho Chi was exceeded only by his love for Bonnie and Sarah. His contributions to our chapter and fraternity are too many to name here, but suffice to say, neither would be what they are today without him. He has been the glue that binds us together for many years, and he will be sorely missed.

This past year the Executive Board formed a committee to review our constitution and by-laws, and more specifically the election terms and procedures for our association. As you can imagine, we were quite surprised to find out that neither our constitution or by-laws have been formally approved by the Association. They have been “Provisional” for almost 10 years now.

Over the last few months, the committee (and by Committee we mean Michele) reviewed the documents with the National Fraternity and has proposed a series of minor modifications to bring the documents in compliance with the National Constitution and reflect our current practices . They have also proposed a few typographical corrections.

Below you will find links to the proposed changes along with the current provisional documents. Please review the documents and let us know whether you vote to approve or decline the amendments by e-mail us at election@metagenes.org. If you have any questions about the documents please contact Michele LeTourneur at mletourneur@envisionsite.com

From March 25th through the 28th, Alumni and Actives from all over the country gathered in Virginia’s Capital, Richmond, for the 63rd National Convention of our fraternity. All told, over 170 brothers were in attendance including 31 actives and alumni from Metagenes. In addition to the daily business sessions at the Omni Hotel, participants participated in several breakout sessions on various professional and fraternal topics. On Friday they toured the recently renovated grounds of the State Capital, designed by Thomas Jefferson, along with other sites around the city.

On Saturday, brother Jim Lytle took actives from Metagenes on a tour of his firm’s offices, Odell Associates, in the historic canal district. Originally built in 1910 as a power plant for the adjacent Lucky Strike Cigarette Factory, Odell renovated the building in 2009. The first floor conference and display space is wrapped around a 3 story lobby. Above, the two story-studio space occupies the entire second floor. Looking down on it all is a third floor loft that contains an employee break area and offices for associates.
